Probiotic Strains and their health benefits.
This is a post in addition to the July newsletter
A table highlighting some common probiotic strains and their health benefits
|Genus & Species||Populates||Substance Emitted||Health Benefits|
|Lactobacillus Rhamnosus||Colon &Vagina||Bacteriocins and Hydrogen peroxide||Regulates Immune system:
Reinforces intestinal mucosal barrier and signals to lymphatic tissue. Effective in prevention of rotavirus in children, reduces allergies like hay fever and eczema, reduces respiratory tract infections.
Works synergistically with L. Brevis to prevent yeast overgrowth (candida). Helps with ADD (antibiotic associated diarrhea).
|Lactobacillus Plantarum||Mouth, Small Intestine &Colon||Lactic acid, alcohol, hydrogen peroxide, anti-microbial peptides and exopoly-saccharides||Helps with food allergies, particular soy. Kills pathogen microbes due to hydrogen peroxide emission. Strong anti-inflammatory action, particular in colon. Alleviates symptoms of IBS, Crohn’s, and reduces risk of antibiotic associated colitis (inflammation of the colon).|
|Lactobacillus Casei||Small Intestine &Colon||Ferments sugar into lactic acid to reduce ph||Stimulates immune system. Aids with break down of dairy foods, and can alleviate lactose intolerance|
|Lactobacillus Brevis||Mouth, Colon &Vagina||Lactic acid, CO2 and ethanol and/or acetic acid||Anti-inflammatory for Crohn’s and Leaky Gut Syndrome.
Works synergistically with L. Rhamnosus to prevent yeast overgrowth. Reinforces mucosal membrane to reduce intestinal permeability, hence improve Leaky Gut Syndrome
|Lactobacillus Acidophilus||Small Intestine &Vagina||Hydrogen peroxide, diacetyl and bacteriocins|| Assists in absorption of nutrients (B viatmins, calcium, iron).
Aids food intolerances
|Bifidobacterium Longum||Transverse &Descending Colon||Ferments sugars into lactic acid to reduce ph||Boosts immune system’s response to viral infections. Helps to normalise bowel movements, and prevent/alleviate constipation|
|Bifidobacterium Lactis||Transverse &Descending Colon||Ferments sugars into lactic acid to reduce ph||Increases number of T lymphocytes, hence, increases resistance to viral infections|
|Bifidobacterium Breve||Descending Colon &Vagina||Lactic acid, acetic acid||May reduce yeast overgrowth. Improves symptoms of gas, diarrhea and bowel irritations|
|Lactobacillus Gasseri||Small Intestine &Urogenital area||Hydrogen peroxide, diacetyl and bacteriocins||Protects against urogenital infections such as gardnerella vaginalis. Passed onto babies in breast milk|
|Lactobacillus Salivarius||Mouth, Small Intestine &Urogenital area||Hydrogen peroxide||Anti-microbial, reduces plaque, prevents vaginal infections, stimulates immune system|
|Lactobacillus Reuteri||Mouth, Small Intestine &Urogenital area||Hydrogen peroxide, diacetyl and bacteriocins||Immune protection to viral invasion, protects against yeast/urinary tract infections and gardnerella vaginalis, fights bacteria Helicobacter pylori, which is known to cause peptic ulcers. Involved with increasing vitamin D levels. Reduces frequency of infant colic. Found in breast milk.|
If you can find a supplement including L. Rhamnosus and L. Plantarum, you are pretty well covered.
Healthy Essentials includes all the above, and provides very good dosage per capsule, too.
I do not get anything for promoting their products, I just believe that their product line is mostly pretty good, for a retail line.
